New Blog: Introducing Jumprope Videos

Once upon a time, I was a world class jumper in the sport of Jump Rope. I traveled all over the world to perform and compete. I won several national championship titles and one world championship title. I even started my own team in college with the help of some good friends. Then I graduated college and got a desk job. Let's just say I've let my skills atrophy a little since then.

Now I'm looking to get back into Jump Rope. I miss it. It was a ton of fun and kept me in great shape. I need to drop some weight and get back in good shape, and jumping rope is the best way I know to do that. I'll let you know how that goes.

My goal with this site is to let everyone know how cool this sport is, and how good it can be for your health and physical fitness. If you have never seen it before, prepare to be amazed. I'll try to collect as many videos as I can from around the web to show you how amazing Jump Rope is.

Add Dynamic Content to Your Blog with Google Related Links

Add this to your list of useful tools. Google has given bloggers and website owners a new way to add dynamic content on their websites. Last week Google introduced Google Related Links. Google Related Links is another Google Labs experiment in which Google crawls your site, and then dynamically displays related content. Depending on how you configure the Related Links unit, users can click on various tabs to display related news, videos, searches, or web pages.

Overall this is a really cool idea. That being said, there is definitely room for improvement. Here are the things that jump out at me:

  1. The "related content" that is displayed is generally relevant to the content on your site, but sometimes strays slightly off topic. (See Game Room Gear for some examples, if you hit refresh you will generally be shown new related content). I'm sure the folks at Google Labs will constantly be tweaking their algorithms to make the content more relevant.

  2. Another obvious area of improvement is customization. They could easily expand the color palatte and sizing options in the same way that they have for users of their AdSense program. Ideally it would be nice to be able to blend the color to match your site's theme. You should be able to choose the custom palattes you have already created in AdSense.

  3. I don't understand why they restrict you to only 3 of the 4 possible types of related links. You can display 1, 2, or 3 of the tabs, but not 4. This seems like a completely arbitrary restriction.

As with most other tools that Google launches, this shows great promise and will surely improve over time. Google Related Links is off to a good start and is worth checking out.

The Legend of Zelda: Twighlight Princess for Nintendo Wii

Here is another video demonstration of the new Nintendo Wii from E3 2006. In this video, some Nintendo developers are demonstrating the latest Legend Of Zelda installment; "Twighlight Princess". The price tag for the Nintendo Wii is expected to be around 25,000 Yen or $225 US. It is expected to be in stores Q4 of this year, just in time for Christmas. Man, do I feel sorry for the guys working at the maul mall or Best Buy during this holiday season. The words "innocent bystander" come to mind since this will be this years must-have-whatever-the-cost-in-human-lives Christmas gift.

Nintendo Wii Gameplay Video

Here is a video from Nintendo that gives you a good idea of what can be done with the new Nintendo Wii. The Wii was just awarded "Best of Show" at E3 2006. The real innovation is in their new controller design. I was very skeptical when this latest Nintendo console was announced. After the reaction at this year's E3 and after seeing a few videos I'm definitely interested in giving the Wii a test run. Nintendo has definitely gone in a different direction from Microsoft's XBox 360 and Sony's PS3. Many people questioned their strategy at first, but it looks like their approach might be paying off.

Google Site Maps for Blogger and AdSense updates

Google has recently made some improvements to Google Sitemaps. One major improvement is that users of Blogger can now verify ownership of their blog by using a meta tag. Once you verify your site, you will have increased access to your query and crawl statistics along with improved diagnostics for finding html errors. You will be able to see your page through the eyes of the googlebot.

In other news Google Adsense has recently added new referral buttons for Picasa, Google Pack, and even AdWords. They have also given all referral buttons a makeover. Cool! More ways to get rich!
